Experiential Learning

Experiential learning (EL) is a key feature of the curriculum in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Meteorology students who start at Rutgers in Fall 2026 or later complete the EL requirement by taking at least 3 credits in any combination of the following courses or experiences:

  • 11:554:298 Honors Tutorial II
  • 11:554:301/2 Aresty Research Assistantship
  • 11:554:397/8 Honors Tutorial III/IV
  • 11:554:487/8 G. H. Cook Honors Program
  • 11:670:334 Severe Weather Forecasting Field Trip
  • 11:670:391/2 Meteorology Internship
  • 11:670:493/4 Research Problems in Meteorology
  • 11:902:300 SEBS Internship I
  • Any faculty-led study abroad experience approved by the Meteorology UPD

Registering for any of the 670 courses on the list above requires a special permission number. Students interested in these courses should work with their advisor to complete the EL contract (hard copies are available from the UPD). Upon approval, the UPD will provide the appropriate special permission numbers.
