Graduation Requirements

SEBS Core Curriculum Requirements

Students who entered the environmental science major prior to 2025 can choose to graduate under the previous requirements

Environmental Science major

All students must take

  1. 119:103 Principles of Biology OR 119:115 General Biology I and 116 General Biology II
  2. 750:193 Physics for the Sciences I and 194 Physics for the Sciences II OR
    750:203 General Physics I and 204 General Physics II
  3. 160:161 General Chemistry I and 162 General Chemistry II and 171 Introduction to Experimentation
  4. 375:201 Environmental Biology
  5. 375:202 Environmental Chemistry
  6. 375:203 Physical Principles of Environmental Sciences
  7. 375:310 Analytical Environmental Chemistry Laboratory
  8. Calculus 1 (640:135 or equiv)
  9. 216:351 Principles of Ecology
  10. 160:209 Elementary Organic Chemistry OR 160:307 Organic Chemistry I and 308 Organic Chemistry II
  11. 375:390 Careers in Environmental Science

APPLIED ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Required courses:

  2. 375:307 Solid waste

Choose 2 of the following courses:

  2. 375:421 Air pollution
  3. 375:430 Haz waste

And 12 credits of electives from this list (if not already used above):

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

Required courses:

One of the following three courses:

  1. 375:312 Environmental Microbiology Laboratory (cannot be counted here as well as for the lab requirement above)
