Interns with Conservation Police at NJDEP

Application Deadline: April 10, 2023

Interns will be introduced to the day-to-day workings of New Jersey Conservation Police. Time will be spent with officers reviewing field practices, regulation enforcement and patrol techniques. The internship will highlight the tasks and responsibilities of our officers and how it relates to the hierarchy of our bureau. It will also bridge the biological degree requirement and conservation police work.

Land Steward Internships

Application Deadline: March 31, 2023

Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS) seeks three Land Steward Interns for the 2023 season. The interns will work under the direction of the FOPOS Director of Natural Resources and Stewardship, assisting in the day-to-day activities of managing an open space preserve. Most of the interns’ time will be spent outdoors working within riparian and forest restoration project sites located at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve in Princeton. Interns will also get the opportunity to assist in the beginning stages of a new reforestation project supported by New Jersey’s Natural Climate Solutions Grant program, in partnership with the Municipality of Princeton, NJ.

This is a paid internship and FOPOS is accepting applications on a rolling basis. FOPOS encourages interested applicants to apply early. Applications are due by March 31st.

Scholarship Opportunity for Environmental Health Students

Application Deadline: April 15, 2023

National Enviornmental Health Association (NEHA) and American Academy of Sanitarians (AAS) is offering aacademic scholarships are available for undergraduate and graduate students in environmental health. The scholarship program aims to encourage early commitment by students to pursue a career in environmental health.

  • Two undergraduate applicants will be awarded $2,650 each
  • One graduate student applicant will be awarded for $3,750.
  • Applications are due by April 15.

    Apply to be a 2023 Waterfront Scholar

    Application Deadline: April 14, 2023

    Waterfront Scholars is a program that provides free admission to this annual conference—now in its 16th year, it is the largest gathering of waterfront professionals in the region—for a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students. Based on answers to a short application, Scholars will be chosen for an exciting learning and networking opportunity at our Waterfront Conference, the region’s premier forum for the shared waterfront. Annually, the event attracts more than 600 participants, including policymakers, community leaders, scientists, engineers, architects, academics, and environmental advocates, as well as labor, real estate, insurance, and financial service professionals.

    The conference will be held May 8 in New York City at Lower Manhattan’s Museum of Jewish Heritage, and includes an exciting slate of speakers and panels. At this year’s conference, we are focusing attention on the best practices and strategies for implementation. Themes include climate resilience and sustainability implementation; resilient infrastructure; the central role of ports and the maritime industry in the future of the region and for sustainability; the needs and challenges of the offshore wind sector; commitments to the most vulnerable and environmental justice communities; and ensuring best practices in planning, programs, and decision making. Your students may be interested in the Communities, Projects & Public Participation and Climate Resistance Implementation tracks.

    Waterfront Scholars will be invited to attend the Waterfront Conference free of charge (students must provide their own transportation to get to/from the conference location) and will be recognized during the day’s activities.

    Internships at Rutgers Gardens

    Applications for the 2023 Rutgers Gardens Internship Program are now being accepted! This is a full-time, paid summer internship that runs from May 15th – August 25th, 2023. Applicants must be current Rutgers University students.

    Students are invited to apply to the Student Farm Track or Public Garden Management Track (or both, though if selected they can only participate in one track this year). Each track provides hands-on, experiential learning opportunities centered around agriculture and horticulture, respectively.

    NJWEA Scholarships

    Deadline: March 10, 2023

    The New Jersey Water Environment Association (NJWEA) is pleased to offer its Scholarship Awards Program, named in honor of Dr. Raymond M. Manganelli, former Professor of Environmental Science at Rutgers University, and former Chair of the Association’s Student Programs and Scholarship Awards Committees. These awards are intended for both graduate and undergraduate students, including those attending county colleges, and technical schools, as well as high school seniors.

    The Henry van der Vliet Award is specifically for undergraduate juniors and seniors majoring in Environmental Science at Rutgers University.

    Reducetarian Foundation Fellowship Program

    Deadline: March 31, 2023

    The Reducetarian Fellowship is a one-year program for exceptional New York City-area undergraduate students who are eager to create a more sustainable, healthy, and compassionate world. The fellowship includes both a curricular component as well as a summer internship with one of many exciting and impactful partner organizations. Each fellow receives a $7,500 stipend and one-on-one mentorship throughout the year.

    Scholarships offered by Master Gardeners of Monmouth County

    Deadline: April 17, 2023

    The Master Gardeners of Monmouth County are offering merit-based scholarships, minimum award of $1,000, to graduating high school seniors or current college students.

    The qualifications are:

    • Must be a resident of Monmouth County
    • Must be accepted to matriculate at a college or university for the Fall 2023 semester
    • Planning to major in Horticulture, Environmental Sciences, Plant Biology/Botany, Environmental Planning and Design or related Agricultural fields
    • Have demonstrated interest in the areas of their intended college major through classwork, employment, community service, and/or extra-curricular activities
    • Previous winners are ineligible

    The RCC Campus Fellowship program is a paid opportunity for students working on projects related to sustainability, environmental justice, and the climate crisis. To apply to the program, students propose their own projects that are focused on these areas to be carried out on their campuses and in their communities. Individuals considering applying to the program may consider a wide variety of potential projects. Former fellows have run projects ranging from divestment campaigns to podcasts on environmental justice issues and campaigns for renewable energy infrastructure on their campuses.

    If accepted into the program, Fellows will become active members of the RCC national campus program with over 5,000 active faculty, students, staff and administrators at 63 campuses and benefit from the mentorship of leading climate and environmental author Dr. Robert K. Musil and Campus Coordinator Mackay Pierce. Our Fellows are nationally recognized youth leaders and advocates.

    Summer Environmental Science Opportunity in Monterey, CA
